Gabriella Berman

Gabriella Berman is a Ph.D. candidate in theology at Notre Dame, specializing in moral theology and Christian ethics with a secondary focus in liturgical studies. Her research utilizes ethnographic methods to examine the socio-ritual lives of women within Catholic, Christian faith communities as a particular response to the role and participation of women in the church. Her dissertation entitled "On the Inclusion and Exclusion of Women with Young Children in Catholic Churches: An Ethnographic Theology" explores how the active and transitional state of bearing young children affects the inclusion and exclusion of women in both Eastern and Western Catholic churches. Central to her investigation is her position as an Eastern, Maronite Catholic residing in a Western, Roman Catholic diocese with her Ph.D. candidate husband and four children.

She completed her master of theological studies degree at the University of Notre Dame in 2019 after completing her B.A. honors degree in humanities and theology at Villanova University in 2017.
