Julia Shenot

Julia Shenot is a Ph.D. student in philosophy at the University of Notre Dame, working in metaphysics, philosophy of mind, and applied ethics. Her research focuses on the relationship between theories of composition and consciousness. It investigates the fundamentality of conscious experience and the success of reductive physicalist views of the mind.

Shenot is also interested in the ethical implications of philosophical and folk concepts of consciousness, particularly as they relate to AI. This work considers how the way we choose to define mental concepts informs our relationships with AI, other humans, and ourselves. Before arriving at Notre Dame, Shenot received a B.A. in philosophy from Duke University.
