Maria Milkowski

Maria Milkowski is a Ph.D. student in computer science and engineering at the University of Notre Dame. Her research examines conflict in autonomous multi-agent systems, with a particular focus on how competing goals, moral alignment, and deceptive behavior emerge among artificial agents. Through this work, she seeks to better understand how autonomous systems make decisions in complex social environments and what those decisions mean for the design and governance of emerging technologies.

As a Tech Ethics Graduate Fellow and Graduate Justice Fellow at the Institute for Social Concerns, Maria approaches these questions through an interdisciplinary lens that draws on computer science, ethics, and law. She has presented her work in forums spanning these fields and is particularly interested in how emerging technologies reshape questions of responsibility, cooperation, and social trust. She also serves on the Computer Science and Engineering Graduate Student Board at Notre Dame.
