Wilson Raney

Wilson Raney is a Ph.D candidate in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Notre Dame, studying under Professor Yamil Colón. His research is focused on investigating the nonlinear optical properties of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). His research uses computational methods such as density functional theory to probe the MOF design space and predict key performance metrics for quantum optics applications. This project aims to propose a new class of materials that can play a key role in emerging quantum technologies like quantum computing, quantum cryptography, and quantum sensing. As a Tech Ethics Graduate Fellow, Raney is exploring the democratization of quantum technologies and global supply chains underpinning the distribution of quantum materials.

Raney was a member of the 2025-26 cohort of Leadership Advancing Socially Engaged Research (LASER) and a Social Chair on the Graduate Student Government (2024-25). He is a graduate of the University of Alabama. Raney holds tangential interests in financial markets, science fiction, and techno.
