Join the Institute for Ethics and the Common Good for a masterclass led by Wilsey Distinguished Graduate Fellow Laura López-Pérez, Notre Dame Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Political Science.

Her masterclass is titled “The Risky Search for Justice: Victims' Relatives' Activism in Violent Conflicts.”

Violent conflicts deeply affect countless lives, leading to deaths, disappearances, torture, and displacement. Despite the risks and the widespread lack of accountability in these situations, some victims' relatives choose to fight for justice. In most cases, it is the families of the disappeared who take the lead in these efforts. But why is this the case? What is particular about disappearances that motivates these relatives to overcome their fears and take on the dangers of mobilizing? To explore this, López-Pérez examines the experiences of victims' families in Mexico.

The Masterclass Series showcases ECG Fellows and the “can’t miss” ideas that fuel their research. These events are open to the public, and refreshments will be served. Registration is not required, but it would help us better plan our reception if you let us know you're attending.
