Join the Institute for Ethics and the Common Good for a masterclass led by Wilsey Distinguished Graduate Fellow Benjamin (Jack) Young, Notre Dame Ph.D. candidate in the Department of History.

His masterclass is titled "The Spirit of Suburbia: Religion, Real Estate, and the Rise of the Metropolitan South."

The transformation of the twentieth-century United States into a majority-suburban nation altered the shape of its cities, the terrain of its culture, and the fault lines of its politics, and few experienced this transformation more profoundly than the generation of southern evangelicals who left the rural South in the 1940s and 1950s for the region's sprawling, fast-growing cities. This masterclass explores how southern "Bible Belt" Christianity evolved as it migrated to the suburbs, and the long-term implications of this shift for American religious and civic life.

The Masterclass Series showcases ECG Fellows and the “can’t miss” ideas that fuel their research. These events are open to the public, and refreshments will be served. Registration is not required, but it would help us better plan our reception if you let us know you're attending
