Michael Downs

Biography

Michael serves as Regional Program Engagement Director based in California’s Bay Area, where he helps to build the DELTA Network on the West Coast.

Prior to joining the ECG team, he worked at Bishop O’Dowd High School in Oakland as their Director of Justice and Kinship, where he led creation care and service learning initiatives, and Bellarmine College Prep in San Jose, where he chaired the religious studies department and developed ethics curriculum at “Silicon Valley’s Jesuit high school.”

Michael's regional and national leadership at the intersection of ecology, spirituality, and justice has earned distinction from the Diocese of Oakland, NCEA, Laudato Si Movement, Catholic Climate Covenant, and Laudato Si Action Platform. He also serves on the California Catholic Conference's Environmental Stewardship Committee, and the Vatican's Laudato Si Action Platform Working Group for schools. He earned his undergraduate degree and M.Ed. from the University of Notre Dame, and his M.A. in Christian Spirituality from the Graduate Theological Union at Berkeley.
